Cotonou, July 29, 2025 — In the face of climate urgency and the fossil fuel industry’s grip on dominant narratives, Renewable Energy Coalition (REC) Benin brought together 30 young activists, citizen journalists, and engaged content creators for an intensive training in visual storytelling, content creation, and digital influence strategies. The goal? To equip a new generation of communicators capable of amplifying local climate solutions and advocating for a just, renewable energy transition in Benin.
📸 Images as Tools of Resistance
Through two hands-on workshops, participants learned to harness their smartphones as instruments of change—mastering mobile photography, strategic storytelling, and spotlighting grassroots initiatives.
🎥 Content to Convince, Stories to Inspire
The videos, reels, and stories created during the training highlight tangible alternatives to fossil fuel dependence: decentralized energy solutions and community-led projects. Here, storytelling becomes a form of advocacy—reshaping Benin’s energy narrative.
👤 Amplifying Voices with Impact
A personal branding module empowered each attendee to craft a cohesive digital identity aligned with their activism: speak boldly, speak truth, and build loyal audiences to magnify the climate justice movement.
🤝 A Community for the Future
Beyond technical skills, this training planted the seeds of a creative, militant alliance—ready to challenge polluting narratives and champion an Africa powered by the people: clean, decentralized, and democratic.
“My phone is now a weapon. I can document solar successes in my neighborhood and prove that change starts with us.”
— Fulberte Gbaguidi, participant
📌 What’s Next?
Each participant left with a strategic toolkit and a mission: make local solutions visible—and prepare to set boundaries, drawing red lines against fossil fuels this September.
