In June 2023, Civil Society organisations (CSOs), partners, and communities from Indonesia, South Africa, Senegal, and Vietnam gathered to reflect and respond to the emergence of Just Energy Transition Partnerships deals in South Africa, Indonesia, Senegal and Vietnam.

These new climate finance deals aim to secure financial investment for renewable energy transitions, mobilising funds to address the socio-economic and environmental challenges associated with decarbonising economies and the phase-out of the fossil fuel industry. So far, countries including the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the European Union have made pledges.

The JETP recipient countries have partnered to ensure that the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is equitable for everyone and that social and environmental justice is prioritised.

The Global JETP Principles offer a beacon of hope for JETP recipient countries and other climate-exposed regions worldwide who share a vision for a transformative and equitable renewable energy future. The principles aim to empower JETP recipient countries to lead a transition that fosters inclusive and participatory processes for global just transitions.

This gathering will set the stage for the official launch of the Global JETP Principles on April 18th.
