You’ve probably been wondering what all the fuss has been about this 350 eARTh project. Is it art? Does it connect to climate change? Will it make a difference?
The answer is YES – and in Cape Town, South Africa this Saturday we making the largest ever solar cooker picnic.
All throughout this week, at more than a dozen locations around the world, artists and 350.org members will be creating art pieces that are big enough to be seen from space. We’re hoping that ahead of the UN climate talks in Cancun slated for early December, these art pieces will show the world that we need action, and that it’s going to take more than just graphs and charts to make that happen. It’s going to take music, dance, visual art and all kinds of creative expression to communicate the urgency of climate change.
To whet your appetite, our friends at the Canary Project have designed this image to show what the picnic setup will look like — a sun formed by 40+ solar cookers and its rays the picnic tables where you’ll be sitting.
