30+ events across Africa to #BreakFree from fossil fuels
Who: Partners in the Break Free movement – 350.org, Greenpeace Africa, Earthlife Africa Jhb, African Climate Reality Project (ACRP) and other civil society organisation will be calling on governments and financial institutions to Break Free from fossil fuels.
What: Hundreds of people across the continent will be organising marches, film screenings, petition handovers, pickets and university debates addressing issues related to fossil fuels and their devastating impacts.
When: Friday 25th of May 2018 (Africa Day)
Where: There will be over 30 events in Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Egypt and the DRC.
Why: Break Free aims to amplify the voices of those in the frontlines of the impacts of fossil fuels. We want to speak in a united voice for Africa: making a clear statement that it is time to Break Free from fossil fuels. The harsh realities of climate change need to be urgently addressed in the interest of the people on the continent. We need to be part of the conversation and part of the solutions that will usher in the age of renewable energy.
