350Ghana Reducing our Carbon (350GROC), in collaboration with GreenFaith Ghana and Renewable Energy for Communities Coalition (#RE4CC ) are leading climate advocacy that will host a national peaceful march themed “Take Our Future Back into Our Hands” on September 19, 2025. The Draw the Line March will begin from Independence Square and conclude at the Ministry of Energy, where participants will present a petition demanding urgent action on Ghana’s energy future to the Minister of state, Climate Change and Innovation. The Draw the Line Campaign is a bold mobilization that calls for an urgent shift from fossil fuel dependence to a just, renewable, and people-powered energy future.
Ghana continues to face the devastating impacts of climate change, worsening energy inequality, and environmental destruction linked to the expansion of fossil fuel investments. Despite the country’s vast renewable energy potential particularly in solar and wind only a small fraction has been harnessed, leaving many communities without reliable access to affordable, sustainable electricity.
350 Ghana’s campaign seeks to amplify the voices of youth, faith leaders, civil society, and frontline communities, demanding more investment in renewable energy while opposing new fossil fuel projects, including the second phase of the gas plant line.
The main objectives of the march include calling for increased investment in renewable energy while defunding fossil fuel projects, and championing community-based renewable energy solutions. Advocating for fair, inclusive, and sustainable alternatives within Ghana’s energy transition agenda. Highlighting the environmental and social threats of illegal mining (galamsey), especially its impact on biodiversity and rural livelihoods. And finally, launching a National Pledge, signed by citizens and religious leaders, to be presented to the Ministry of Climate Change.
“We cannot stand by while fossil fuel expansion threatens our environment, health, and future. This march is a collective call for justice and a bold reminder that Ghana’s energy future must be renewable, inclusive, and sustainable,” said Portia Adu-Mensah, National Coordinator of 350 Ghana Reducing Our Carbon.
350 Ghana invites citizens, faith leaders, youth groups, and civil society to join the Draw the Line March and add their voices to the demand for climate and energy justice on Friday, September 19, 2025. The theme: “Take Our Future Back into Our Hands” will see the march start point at the Independence Square, Accra and end Point at the Ministry of Energy, Accra.
350Ghana Reducing our Carbon (350GROC) is part of the global 350.org movement, working to end the era of fossil fuels and build a just, equitable, and renewable energy future.
